"Being a father of a young boy, I wrote this script as a moment of clarity and honesty between a man and his son.  When it was changed in preproduction to a father/daughter relationship, it pleasantly revealed layers and a dynamic I hadn't previously considered.  The end result, I think, nicely captures the essence of what I was going for - honest communication, with the risk of pain, when it matters most."
